Well I just replaced my tranny mount to address the "thump" (bang) I get, in the rear underside, when starting up from a dead stop. Problem gets worse in wet driving.
Since it's not the tranny mount, any other ideas? Thump seems to come from the rear wheel area ( think).
Mechanic looked over the CV joint and said it's tight.
Thanks.

Going from memory there are three Universal Joints on the drive shaft any one of which will give you a clunking noise if worn. Did your mechanic check all of them?
Also check the support bearing on the drive shaft. This usually causes vibration rather than a clunk, but is worth a check.
Bill.
