OK. So this past weekend I took apart and cleaned my PCV system. Long job, found lots of blockages, the oil trap was a mess (so I replaced it with a nice clean one from the parts car) but I got it back together. Ran great for 45 minutes until it just died. Had it towed. Shop found the Turbo tube that runs from the turbo behind the engine to the intercooler had popped off. I figured I had failed to tighten the clamp when I put it back together. Picked up the car and it ran for half an hour and died. Same shop, same problem. Mechanic thinks maybe I'm getting too much boost which is blowing the tube off the turbo. I'm thinking not likely. Cleaning the PCV should not create that situation, right? He says there seems to be a lot of oil in the turbo line (I cleaned a fair amount of residual oil out of the turbo tube) and he is afraid to touch it. He wants me to take it to the dreaded dealer. I'm thinking, 1) maybe the turbo tube hose clamp is just not tightening up enough, as it's the original or 2) there is oil in the turbo itself and that is causing overboost? or 3) the turbo has been compensating for the dirty PCV and has been overboosting for some time (but I don't pretend to understand how that could actually happen). Any ideas? I am out of town until Friday when I'll go pick it up. I'm hoping this is an easy "non dealer" fix.
