I purchased the car in late December with a recent engine swap (41k on the engine), drove it home (150+ miles) and while it did stall out on me 2x (ran the engine codes prior to driving and it had a mass air flow sensor error and a camshaft position sensor error so I assumed these were the reason) the car seemed to be in otherwise good mechanical shape. After replacing the MAF and CPS, we took the car to a longtime family volvo mechanic for a look over and tune-up. After seeing the engine swap, apparently the wiring wasn't up to his standards (after inspection it was cold solder joints) and he wanted to redo them. After fixing that, the car ran while at his garage and did so for another 3 days (he would move the car occasionally to make room for others) until it finally stopped running. He believes it was the ECU that went out and recommends replacing it (pulled an identical ECU (2002 HPT) from a yard). After install, still no luck. The mechanic then proceeds to call his buddy who works for volvo to come and have a look. After he looks at it, he recommends to basically scrap the car, and believes that the cost to fix > value of the car. My question is this....
A) What would be some things to check for before deciding to give up on the car?
B) Would it be possible to swap the engine into another car?

An identical ECM with the same part number will not start this car. It needs a Vida subscription at the dealer or you can send both ECMs (new & old) to ARD Tuning or XeModex to erase then reprogram the replacement ECM after reading and copying data from the original.
Another way is to contact Skype user "doublebug" (Henry) He can also clone your ECM through the internet however you will need a Vida/Dice setup on laptop and a broadband or good 3G connection.
Do you still have the original ECM ?
You can swap the engine into any other T5 badged Volvo built after 2000 or an R series V70 post 1999. Any other C70 again post 1999 will also take the B5234T engine from your C70.

Does the engine at least turn? Check the compression. I had the crank shaft pulley strip on my 2002 S60. Two different dealers said it was the ECM (which I replaced with Xemodex). They were wrong. A local mechanic picked up that the timing was off given the cam shaft error code. He pulled the timing belt and grabbed the crank shaft pulley which moved when it shouldn't. I've got a separate post on this forum that explains it further. I wouldn't give up yet on it. I would at least go through the basics. Check your fuel pressure at the rail, check your spark (tester), check your cylinder pressure (must be 140 psi or more)... it should at least fire regardless of the ECM unless the timing is totally off.

If the ECM hasn't been matched the car will not fire because the immobiliser won't allow it. Key, ECM, CEM and immobiliser must be matched to provide spark.
Checking fuel at the rail and compression is good basic fault finding and I suggest doing it however you need to find out what is going on with the replacement ECM and whether it was properly matched.
Is spark actually missing? Also when engine is turning by starter remove spark plugs and place a straw in the hole and see if the straw pops up and down.

Well, after finally running my V70 until it will run no more, I'm back to try and fix the C70.
I've had the car in storage since last year, so I'm picking up right where I left off and can hopefully breathe life back into this beaut'.
After examining the car to refresh myself,
- The car does turn over, but will not fire
- When I try to read the codes from the car, the reader will not connect
So basically I'm starting from scratch again. If anyone can refer me to some tests I can run so that I have a better idea of what my problem is, that would be greatly appreciated!

I would put original ECU in the car and go through the basics as very well suggested. That is fuel and spark. Not quite sure why it was suggested to scrap car, since detail is lacking. Anyway, if starter turns check for gas. If you remlve a plug it should be wet after all this cranking. If plug is indeed wet then check for spark. Plug on the block and crank to see the spark. If both present then move on to timing. And so on, post back too.

Sorting out third party wiring is extremely time consuming, and, if done professionally, money consuming. Most mechanics won't take that job as the chance of success is low and customers then won't want to pay. I wouldn't do it unless the customer paid me for 10 -20 hour increments in advance.

After doing some research and looking over the car again, I've come back with more information/more questions.
#1- There is fuel getting to the fuel rail (checked the fitting and fuel shot out).
#2- Haven't checked the spark, but will report back tonight once the car is brought back from storage (only had myself available to test, needed a second person)
#3-How can I make sure that the ECM and Engine matchup? Is there a way to do a VIN check against the ECM? (I couldn't find the other ECM in the car, so how can I determine if this is the original?)
#4- I tried to connect my OBD2 Bluetooth scanner to the car (via Torque) and it will not connect. (I'm guessing this is due to the the car not running?)
#5- After looking at other forums, how to I check to make sure that the immobilizer isnt engaged? (How do I disable it?)
Also, I noticed this hose not connected.

Does anyone know where this should go?

That is the air conditioning hose. It's been removed from the compressor. Now you will need a seal and a new condensor because air has been introduced to the system.
You can't disable a Volvo immobiliser.
Get a Vida/Dice system and scan the car. There's a guy here MVS user doublebug who can assist with the diagnostic results and possibly to restore the ECM HOWEVER you may need the original ECM module. Just post up a pic of the scan result. If you get red coloured modules you know you have communication issues.

Just got done checking the spark plugs.... No spark. Now I'm not sure what to check next. What about the Cam Position Sensor? What is the correct way to test the sensor?
