2003 S60 2.4T Fuel meter incorrect?

Post by Irhuma79 »

I had the fuel pump and battery replaced last week. After a week of driving, abd when I apptoached my parking bay. The car turned off, all lights on the dashboard was working 100% but never catch. No fuel smell and I could hear the fuel pump sound, although it was VERY WEAK AND SHORT.The scanner shows nothing. Now I checked the fuel indicator it was on the last line and the meter shows 200Km fuel capacity. I decided to add fuel to the tank (just a thought since last time when the car stopped the indicator was almost on the same level. Adding 5L brings the car to life? I drove it to the nearest petrol station and full tanked. Now I can feel the car a bit heavy but running fine. Could it be the fuel meter incorrect? Does it need calibration (as it was shoingshowing 200Km fuel capacity)? And how to fix the incorrect measures.

Yes, perhaps there was still a bit of gas remaining - reason the engine did run well until you turned it off - but not enough to have enough fuel pressure to fire the engine up again

When you say "on the last line", was this the red line? Was the low fuel light lit?

The fuel gauge is notoriously imprecise on this car. If your gas tank is the metal type (there is also a plastic type), here's how the gas level float would look like Not shown but I also had to compress a bit the metal rod "U" portion because it had a little play on the potentiometer
