1996 850 T5 no dash sound after installing factory amp

Post by Assi1979 »

Just installed the factory 4*50W Volvo AMP (behing the radio)to my SC-811 sound system. OE harness of course. Gave great improvement in bass, but I can`t figure out why the dash tweeters are dead. The harness seemed plug and play with no options or possibilities for wrong connecting. Anyone knows what I have to do? I have searched the internet and found schematics, but I can`t figure it out.
Thanks in advance

The dash speakers continue to get driven by the head unit. With the factory installed amp there is an additional connector that has just the two dash speakers that plugs into the head unit speaker output.

You my also check if the extra bottom end had knocked the magnets off the speakers in the dash pad.

I am actually joking about that being the reason, but three out of my five 850s had the dash speaker magnets disconnected and stuck on the inside of the firewall.

Another bad glue decision.

The cones also disintegrate depending on the climate.

Take a look, but I am sure as Lee also had mentioned, there is a small harness that needs to be there for continuous signal to the dash speakers.

I believe my T-5R has the amp. I do not listen to that radio much until that one looks like a respectable vehicle. (I don't drive it much.) No front fender, headlights, bumper installed at this point. I do drive it though, and it has been outrageously boost altered.
Sorry, I need to update the maintenance thread so I do not ramble off topic.

Good luck.

Hi and thank You Lee. Just one question: the additional connector You mention; is that also in the amp harness, meaning is it one of the connectors from factory that without amp goes directly to HU and now goes via amp harness?
Thanks again

I'm not sure. I have had it all apart before replacing the evaporator but I don't specifically remember how it was routed. I'm thinking that it split out of the normal factory speaker harness to its own connector but I could be wrong. I was so busy trying to get the gooey foam that was around the wires off of things that I really didn't pay that much attention.

I figures it out. Had to take the four pins from OE car harness plug and add them to the AMP plug. The amp plugs were only prepared for 4 speakers (or more if connected paralell)

Thanks guys for advice
