1997 940 - Speed/odometer temporary stopped working

Post by Metallo »

Hi,

About one year ago my speed/odometer stopped working for a few minutes and then started again.
On week ago it stopped again, so I switched the engine off and started it again, the speed/odometer is working fine again since then.

Any suggestion on where to start from to locate the root cause of the problem?

Thank you
Alex

When both are not working, it would suggest something from rear-end sensor to speed/odometer unit.

Drive it, and set cruise next time if fails...does cruise work?

I have no idea if this is applicable: 740/940 Instrument Cluster Repair (1991+)

If by cruise you mean the cruise control, my car has no cruise control.
Everything seemed to work fine but the odo and the speed meters.
I will wait next time, it may take another year, what I find strange is that it gets to work again once you switch the motor off/on.

Anyhow, let's see next time

Thanks

ABS? It is working the few times I need it, that is, in the winter with snow and ice...

I've never dealt with this issue, but most likely, either the ground or positive sources supplying electric motor is the issue.

I don't know if these +/- sources are via physical wires, or ribbon cable on back-side of board there.

OK guys,

this morning it happened again while on my way to work, however, I noticed that hitting the dashboard just above the whole cluster it makes the odo/speed meters work again, then stop then start again and so on.

It might be a soldering issue or perhaps, a connection, so I will follow the link previously posted by 93Regina: http://www.turbobricks.com/maint.php?content=art0031

Let's see what I will find out.

Working to remove the cluster... anybody knows the correct way to disconnect the hose that goes to the turbo gauge?

Do I simply need to pull out the plastic connector (beige color) from the gauge?
If yes, is there a specific direction I have to turn it to remove or simply pull it out?

Otherwise, should I just remove the black hose from the plastic connector?

Thank you!
