Hello first post - trolling for various fixes over the years.
I changed rear rotors and pad and front pads on my 2010 XC60. The rear was in tough shape the fronts were changed some time ago and were good but changed anyways. My wife drives a lot for work so I didnt want there to be any question if brakes were good or not. The install went smoothly the car has an EPB and I had no issues with that and a friend had the tool for compressing the piston. However I notice that the pedal is soft and has a long travel and not much of a "bite" to stop. I put in ceramic brakes on all around. I am curious if I should bleed the brakes if it would bring the pedal up? The EPB engages and dis-engages fine. I cleaned the oil off the rotors before installing with a MAF sensor solvent (not brake clean) because I had it on hand and it appeared to work well. My concern is the soft pedal would this correct after the brakes have worn a little bit? I didnt remove the calipers at all during removal.
Thanks

Did you bed in the brakes? 3 moderate stops from 30 followed by 3 more from 50 and then drive distance to let brakes cool and then do a test stop.
If this isn't it then the ceramic pads may be the problem. I will not use ceramic pads in my shop any more. High pedal effort is almost a universal complaint.

No I did not bed brakes I did moderate stops at distances and drove for a little while. I don't understand why ceramic brakes would give a soft pedal though. Typically I have found the break pedal would seem to catch sooner. It seems as though, to me, that the pedal is low? That's what made me believe there is air in the line somehow

The spring that keeps the half caliper in place might have been placed in a wrong way
