new battery, dead radio buttons

It's not a POS because it's possessed, it's a POS because it's on it's last limb anyhow. Even the door hinges are broken. No electrical modifications at all.

Door hinges or door stops? Broken hinges would be rare, but broken stops are a common problem.

I still think you have a dead-short somewhere. Like I said, put in a fresh battery and measure current draw with the car off. It should be very low. If it's low, you may simply have a defective battery.

It's the hinge. I can't explain it. It happened with one of the doors on my last 850, too. NO I have not been swinging on the door like a monkey! But for some reason everyone thinks I have. Charged the battery (a brand new one. 20 days old. it was totally dead) put the battery back in today sans the bells and whistles from yesterday and it seems to be working fine. 12volt battery measured over 12 when we put it back in and with the car running the charge was over 13. That means the alternator is working, right? Hell, what do I know about cars. I went to a women's college. I can talk your ear off about anything, though.

A 12-volt battery, fully charged, should read at or above 12.6 volts. By the time it reads only 12.0 volts fully charged, it has only 25% of the rated capacity. At idle the alternator should put out between 13 and 14 volts. 13.5 is typically listed as nominal.

Sounds like it's charged as it should be and that the alternator is working properly too.

Can't understand the door. Very rare for a hinge to break. The little bronze-colored stopper in the middle between the two hinges, sure, that happens all the time and the door will swing free, but the hinges (painted body-color, one at the top and one at the bottom) aren't something I've heard of breaking normally. Hope you have better luck in other areas!
