Greetings. Stopped by PNP today. Located a 99 S70 T5 ! Engine still together. Timing belt was still tight. Didn't have needed tools to rotate engine. Mileage 142k. Build date 10/98. Has Behr coil packs still in place on four plugs, the other might be original. Exhaust mani. removed, intake in place. No dipstick so couldn't check for "milkshake oil". Some repair work stamped/dated 2/14 in manual found in car.
Now my questions are:
1. If timing belt tight and engine rotates, does seem to be a overheat or some other illness ?
2. Does build date fall within my needed model year , 2000 ?
I hired a lot puller to remove ( $40.00 ) . Texas heat. I'll get with him in the mourning to give removal directions. If its a overheat, I'll just send it for R/R. Thoughts and opinions ?

Greetings. Well, PNP head valves were in worst shape than mine. Any suggestions on aftermarket valves ? About ready to buy replacement head from Clearwater ($565).

Clearwater head is probably a good option, then you get a ready to install head, and a warrantee. See what they can do for you with (excess) cores. maybe that can cut your expenses.

Or, you have an extra, bare head you can list and sell. Single solenoid 2.3 should be 99-02, right?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Greetings. Well I will be checking on another PNP head in the mourning. Think I'll pull this one myself. If it looks good I'll do a return and swap. Biggest thing about these PNP Volvos is if the car "ain't wrecked, it wasn't running". Meaning belt break or over heat. Wish me overheat.

Could somebody please build a " Easy Bake Oven for Volvo heads" ? Open package, add water, wait for that slow a$$ light bulb. I would be so happy..

Well, you have done it, officially milked it long enough for me to come help. LOL I'll be headed that way around the 13th. There is a good looking head in the jy hear on a '99 C70. I'm pretty sure all heads are the same, turbo for turbo and na for na. This one has the timing solenoid in the same place as yours and this C70 is wrecked.

The best way to see if a valve is bent or damaged is to pour coolant into the port and see if it leaks through. Have you watched my head rebuild videos?

Let me know if you'd like my help.

Sending the head to the machine shop to be checked to see if it needs to be milled (made true) is a must for a DIY'er. Other than that, you have to have a TRUE straight edge and use a filler gauge to see if it is FLAT.

Greetings. The exhaust valves in my T5 measure 104mm x 6mm x 27mm, and the exhaust valves in a 2001 S80 T6 2.8L L6 measure the same. Would the S80 valves work in my car ? I've spoke to Volvo parts department people, authorized dealers and on sponsors who give the same part specs. The Volvo parts number #9454610 is common in many turbo late models.
Volvo still has these parts in production, in my opinion. Thoughts and opinions respected.
