V70: What is difference between 140/170 hp engine?

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

I'm no expert on UK models, but I believe the difference between those two is that the 170hp has 20 valves and the 140hp has 10.

Four valves per cylinder versus two = better breathing = more horsepower. The software on the chip is almost certainly different to account for the different hardware. I would guess that a chip upgrade on a 140hp, if even available, would not bring you safely up to 170hp.

Yes Matthew, you were right, it's SOHC (10 valves) versus DOHC (20 valves).
