Just one more thing. I did get all the tools and try to do this myself about a month ago. I could not access the clutch plate. It is true, for my car, that I would have to drop the compressor to fit the clutch holder and pulley onto the clutch. I couldn't go through the wheel either because part of the frame is in the way (part of something anyway, that I couldn't get past even after removing the wheel and flap). Also, I used the shorter zip ties because the longer zip ties are too thick and might make the gap too small.The shorter zip ties worked great. I used a long flat head screwdriver to wedge between the plate and the half circle that goes around each of the 3 screws. The screwdriver also acted as a clutch holder to keep the clutch from spinning while I inserted a zip tie on either side of the screw. I used needle nose pliers to tighten the zip tie and then clipped the extra length (for neatness). It took about 1/2 an hour. So, the 2 keys to my method are using short zip ties and having tiny hands. If you can drop the compressor/clutch unit, you don't need tiny hands.

Zipties seem to be gathering favour over the venerable bread clips as the solution of choice. Lets start a campaign to have bread sealed with zip ties !!

Did the Bread Clips on my old 2000 C70 in 2006. Lasted the rest of its life to 2014. Last weekend did the zip tie fix on the 2003 XC70 because it had intermittent failure. Working perfectly to date and I don't have to worry about them falling out. My wife thinks I invented this! Ha Ha! Thanks guys.

I did the zip tie fix last year, however this summer the AC stopped working again. The compressor just does nothing, not sure if the gap opened up or something else failed. System has pressure.
Pic from last year, I ended up using 3 more to close the gap.

They are not impossible to install from below, robert has a video where he does it from top, but I don't think I could do it from top.

Just from this angle, the gap seems quite huge. The gap should be 0.3-0.5mm all around the plate with cold engine so that's about 0.01"-0.02"

I agree, that gap looks huge. You have to measure it. I install them from below.

Wow! i tried the zip tie method on my 1996 850 and it really worked. Wife could not believe it. Thanks to all who contributed your wisdom and knowledge on this issue. You saved me hundreds. Here in the south, the heat and humidity is lethal. God bless and keep on posting and sharing the knowledge. Any suggestions on the odometer & speedometer not turning. I've tried replacing the odometer gears and it worked for a while but now the same problem.

Great news ! Does anyone know if this will work on a S60 2002.
Air was failing as said above. Would work for awhile. Now nothing! Just as I have moved to AZ.

Tried filling and as far as I can tell its full. So hoping I can find clutch . Have zip ties . So is a s60 the same??
