New fuel pump wont prime

Post by Acjlarsen »

I replaced my fuel pump in my 2000 v70xc awd tonight and tried to start the car and its like the pump isn't priming. It wont start, no fuel at fuel rail and the pump just sounds like its dry. Defiantly submerged, defiantly put in right.. What did i do wrong? Is there a priming procedure or should i have manually filled the pump or something? What are my options? Thanks!

Sometimes new parts are bad. Remove and apply 12 volts directly to confirm it is good

I can hear the pump when i click the key to the "on" position. I know its getting power. Should i apply 12v power while i stick it in a bucket on gas? Or what exactly?

Is it:
- Brand-new Bosch pump?
- Used fuel pump from junk yard or ebay?
- Aftermarket fuel pump: what brand?

When asking for help, please include more detail, as detail is very important to help you trouble-shoot.

If you hand-wired an aftermarket pump, is it possible you've reversed the leads? I bet that would cause the pump to spin in reverse and cause your symptoms.

The pump i bought is a cheap Chinese unit. I didn't have to hand wire it, the harness was plug and play... Maybe they reversed a lead?
