2002 s60 2.4T is turbo leaking oil - images included

Hi All,

I made a previous post about my car using about 500ml of oil every 1000ks with no obvious leaking or burning.

This is my follow up:
I am currently removing the valve body from the car to refurb the solenoids.
Whilst I had the car up I noticed this - picture attached

Is this the turbo leaking oil? (that is the turbo isn't it?)I am hoping it maybe the hose on the left needs retightening. I haven't had a chance to clean it up to check, and obviously can't start the car as its in a few pieces at the moment.

This could account for my oil consumption.

Was hoping someone may know from the picture where the potential leak is or what's causing it.



Other than what's on the turbo it's relatively clean in the area, and certainly the under-tray only has a very small amount of oil on it.

If there's anything I can remove to check, I'd appreciate the advice as it would be a good time for me to do it whilst a lot of the car is apart.

Wipe it off with a paper towel and inspect after one week driving.

My gut feel is that is not a big enough leak to account for 500ml per 1000 km consumption

I'll wipe it off once I get it back on the road. I'll recheck and report back.

This is after 1,000kms medium/hard driving.



I suppose its a relief to rule out any real leak here.
I am assuming now that it is simply a slight seep from the fat hose on the left of image with the band clamp - inlet pipe? although the question is how does it get in there?.
Do i need to worry about that, or is it pretty much ok to leave it alone?
I have other items such as replacing the BPS that take priority.

You can drive sedately ignoring that "leak"

The PCV dumps crankcase vapours just before the turbo into the top of that pipe, which is indeed the induction pipe from the air cleaner. It's normal to get some seepage if oil here. You can add " wipe turbo casing" to a 6 month inspection regimen if it's bothersome. Oil is good at working its way into small spaces which is a good thing!!

No chance of sedate driving at the moment. I've been working on getting the car right more for my stepson who is a "P plater" - new driver.
He drives it far more than me, which is ok as the other car I had him in was a Daewoo Lanos, which is NOT a safe car.
He managed to get an exemption to drive the "turbo" - laws here prohibit new drivers from driving turbos normally.
I get to drive it every now and then when I'm lucky lol.
It's the nicest car I've driven TBH!!

We have a similar law here...people named " matt" are forbidden from owning manual transmissions
