HELP! 94 850 shifting wacky(30-40mph), + electronic issue?

If anyone has an idea as to what is happening to my 1994 automatic 850 non-turbo 212,200kmi, I would appreciate your input. A coulpe of days ago I was going about 30-40 mph when the trans seemed to being shifting in and out of gear, the speedometer was also fluctuating while this was happening. Then today at about the same speed the same thing happened, only this time the speedo dropped to zero and stayed there, and the up arrow light started flashing. After stopping and resarting the car the speedo worked but the up arrow light continued flashing, and the clunky trans problem was still there. After a few restarts and with the light still flashing, I switched it to sport mode, and the a couple starts later all seemed well again? Any clue whats going on? I will try to get to a shop and see if there are error codes, but I would like to have an idea what I am facing. Thanks for your advice!

After doing some digging around the boards, I am suspecting the nuetral saftey switch. Does anyone know if that switch could cause the speedo to drop to zero and stay there?
