2004 S60R Angle Gear Collar Sleeve Removal
2004 S60R Angle Gear Collar Sleeve Removal
Finally removed the angle gear/differential from the transmission. Now to the dreaded removal of the collar sleeve. I can not get the sleeve to pull out of the transmission. Are there any tips on how to remove the sleeve without cutting holes to use a puller etc?

Not really, you have to do what you have to do to get it out... (one way or another)!

I was afraid of that suggestion. I have tried about everything minus heating it up with a propane torch. I have tried a gear puller after cutting notches in the collar sleeve, using an air hammer ratchet, to no avail. It will not move from the output shaft the least bit. I am running out of ideas as I do not want to damage the output shaft in any way. Also, I am afraid that the heat from the propane torch may damage something? Does anyone have any pictures or videos of their method in removing the collar sleeve? I am sort of past the point of no return since I have angle cut two grooves in the collar for removal.
The next step may be heating then rotating the puller to see if a combination of pulling/heat will break it loose. This is by far the most frustrating issue I have ever encountered while working on a car. I can't believe this thing is seized in the splines and pull not easily come out with a puller. I will have to give Volvo's engineering department a mark on this one.
