1994 855R exhaust leak in front of cat

Post by azureblue »

I have an exhaust leak that is coming from the front of the cat convertor, where the pipe joins the cat. There is no clamp there, just what appears to be some sort of packing to seal it. What is the best way to repair the leak?

Thanks

Take it a local muffler shop and have it welded. Small time shop, not a chain or franchise.

So no sealer before welding, then? I figured that welding would be the best way, with maybe a clamp being a distant second but I wasn't sure about whatever material was used originally to seal that joint..

Thanks

I would just leave it to the shop, they will do it right, but yeah I think there is no sealer just a weld. I have had 3 repaired that way.

Trivette's Muffler, Performance Muffler & Radiator, and Scottie's Muffler looks to be your only real choices.

Personally, I like the looks of Performance Muffler & Radiator the best.

Call them up and ask.

tryingbe has the right kind of shop. My go to guy is a place called Buzz's Muffler Shop. Buzz does exhaust and his mom runs the cash register. That is the sort of place you are looking for.

Sealers, paste, muffler tape: None of them work, complete waste of time. Like the others say, take it to a good welder

Thanks all. From a slide under the car with a flashlight exam, it looked like a clamp maybe would do the job, but There are several welders and exhaust shops around here. And my indy Volvo shop could do it , too. Much appreciated...
