1: You can't just give up and put it back. If you've loosened it that much, you have to change the gasket.

2: You can't just lift it up, because it will bump against the thingies it's bumping against, which is the reason for your post in the first place.

3: If you can't pull it out to clear those, then you have a) not loosened/removed the bolts enough or b) overlooked one or more bolts.

And yeah, this job is done from up top. No need to get underneath.

YES unfortunately no one has mentioned this but the EGR pipe must be disconnected.

I wouldn't pull the 4 bolts all the way out but it is not then end of the world if you do, at least you can be sure that way.

thanks, that's what i thought... I didn't realize how much of a hassle this replacement turns into when you throw in an egr. i tried to search more for other people with this issue...anways i was running out of time, I had work the next day and ended up biting the bullet and our family mechanic agreed to finish my botched pcv job...for $250 :( and yeah he explained that too, and i guess you got to take out more parts just to make room to take out the EGR.

Yeah, a lot of forum posters have never worked on a car with EGR, so do not even think about it even though you mentioned it several times in your posts.

Don't feel bad, the PCV service is a very long job, it's not tricky like a timing belt job but actually requires more effort because there is so much to remove then put back together.

Guilty as charged. It is better to get this info before you start the job, though.
