I don't know if you should give up on Behr but you should give the Ebay core a try.

Another update re Estonia Heater Core. It is as HOT as stock.

At 170K miles, my stock HC developed a very slow leak (photos in forum). Before I replaced the stock HC, output at center vent was 160F (71C) after a long trip (shopping etc.).
My tstat is brand-new Wahler 90C type, ECC climate controlled set at HOT, blower at 1/4 speed.

Today, it was 35F ambient temp, the Estonia HC gives the same result: 160F at center vent.

BTW: 160F at center vent is an uncomfortable temp, I can't leave my fingers there for more than 5 sec.

So, my verdict is: the Estonia HC is as HOT as the stock HC.

What is the P/N for the OEM o-rings where the heater pipes connect to the heater core? Will they work okay with the Swedish Car Parts core?

Any other parts to consider getting?

I have SCP core on the way because my hot air smells like coolant.

HC O-ring is Volvo PN 3545586 ($3/each at dealer), you need 2 O-rings.
I'd stick to Volvo OEM O-rings.

What's a good method to clean it before installing if I don't have a dishwasher?

I read soaking it in dish soap for several days.

What about boiling it in dish soap for less time? Could this damage it? I would probably remove the foam first.

I have a pressure washer but feel like it needs heat and soap to remove the stinky stuff, and the pressure washer might bend the fins.

The foam has no problem getting wet,
but it is significantly thinner than OEM.

I spent some time waving it through the
soapy water while it was still hot and
then let it soak for a couple days. The
only reason that I left it that long was
because I didn't have time to swap it
in yet. You can easily dry it sooner.
I just blew it out with shop air.

As far as the pressure washer?
I'd agree - Avoid it!

Ferocity,

If you do not have a DW, then use bathtub, hot water and DW soap.

The pressure washer WILL kill the fins. Treat the HC with TLC.

Thanks for all the info. New to the forum but peeked at my heater core which is original Volvo and yellowed. Not leaking. Heat does not come from all vents, only drivers side? so if lucky new core might improve this, though sounds more like a mechanical flap issue somewhere. Plan to follow DIY Robert's pointers, and will try the Swedish Car Parts replacement. Lots of good info on how to DIY on this one.
