1998 T5, Black connector on turbo inlet tube

Post by Trilarry »

I'm changing out my PCV system with parts form FCP Grottons and one of the small hoses close to the fire would not come off so I pulled a little harder and a flame trap looking device came out of the Turbo inlet plastic hose. It has an electricle connector on 1 end and 2 hose connector, 1 smaller than the other. I could not press it back in, all I could do was remove the inlet tube and press this part into the tube with the tube disconnected from the turbo. Anyone know what this part is? Is it the actual PCV itself? I'm glad it came out because it was very clogged?

Yes, this is the valve. Clean it out thoroughly with alcohol and a pipe cleaner. You need to clean it from top to bottom and thru the side which has a very small hole into the center.

It's very awkward to put the valve back, I found that inserting two sides in and the pressing from the center out eventually pushed the seal in on all sides. Then insert electrical connector and push on the new hose pipe set that also goes to the oil trap and inlet manifold.

I've never done it, but I hear putting that little bugger back in is no easy chore. The electrical connection goes to a heater circuit in the block to keep it from clogging. I believe the difference in sizes and the placement of the hoses is what generates the vacuum for the PCV system.

Thanks,
I had to take the inlet off to press the PCV in. It was pretty hard, but it is done. All I have left to do is hook up the throttle body and and some vacuum hoses.
Thanks for the reply
