Ok guys, some more testing. the panel was getting +12 volts on pin 18 connector A, but ignition terminal 15 was not energized, meaning that relay 2/31 (106 15overload) may be stuck. However pulling it resulted in the same 12 v on pin 18 at the cluster. checking the relay socket, both sides of the switching portion of the relay were 12v (one should have been nothing, and the other 12 until it is energized, but it is not even there). So, I checked fuses 2 and 3's sockets, and 3 (interior lighting) was energized... should not be. That leads me back to 2/7, relay 205 206 Central Locking/delayed inside lighting. It is +12v on pin 4B (15) and should not be. So I think this relay is bad. Or an input to it is causing it to go high on that pin.

Anyone else have trouble with the central locking/delayed inside lighting relay? Any guesses on why it would be triggered other than failure?

Thanks

Got it... the central locking/delayed inside lighting relay was a red herring. I pulled it, and that line was still high. so I pulled the relay box and fuse box. the fuse box was cooked. Lots of corrosion. Cleaned it up, and problem is gone... it was just arcing through the corrosion inside the fuse panel.

Now I get to put it all back together, dash, alternator, power steering (removed it to get to the alternator).

Thanks for all of your help.

I just got through cleaning it with a air brush cleaner (like a tiny pipe cleaner) chucked into a dremel tool (that way I could clean inbetween all the fuse blade inserts. I didn't take any pics unfortunately. I can take a picture of the top of the fuse box where it got so hot from the corrosion/resistance it cooked/distorted the plastic surround and browned/cracked it if you like (surprised/disappointed I did not notice that before I started on this quest).

Hi

I know it's been a long time but this just happened to my 96 850 B5254FS.

Did you mean the fuse panel near the windshield wiper cowl?

Just clean the fuse terminals?

Thank you
Rizky

Good luck geting a response from the OP.
He hasn't been on MVS since 2012.

On your '96, that's the only fuse box,
so - Yes - That's the one.
