2.5T Timing Belt Kit CRP TB331K1

Post by cn90 »

Hi guys,

For my 1998 Volvo S70, I use Conti timing belt for the last 15 years without any issues b/c Conti makes the TB for Volvo.

For my 2005 XC90 2.5T or any Volvo model out with 2.5T engines, has anyone here used Continental CRP TB331K1 ($82)?
For comparison purpose: Volvo PN is 30758261 ($120 at dealer).

I assume these 2 kits are identical, obviously the money is less for Continental CRP TB331K1 ($82).

Another question is different types of TB kits.
I think the difference is in the mechanical tensioner design itself, however small the difference is...

Volvo 30758261(up to engine number 3188688).

Volvo 30731727 (from engine number 3188689 and beyond)

For my car, I know I need PN 30731727.

Does anyone know EXACTLY what the difference is?

I found a reference to that in the video by FCPGroton, listen to the comment between timing markings 11:10-11:40:

I think I found the mystery...

Volvo 30758261 ---> Conti TB331K1

Volvo 30731727 ($120) ---> Conti TB331K3 ($110)

Since Volvo Blue Box is only $120, I think I will go with the Blue Box...

As mentioned in some links, the difference is in the water pump number of teeth etc.

I'm using these: You get INA roller and tensioner and a German made belt:

or if after the VIN break

cn90: Could you please elaborate on the difference between TB331K1 and TB331K3. Which parts of the first one cannot be used. There is a big sale for the K1 kit.
