Oil blowing out of filler cap, 1995 850 GLT

Post by Wes850GLT »

Same thing happend a year ago and I cleaned the flame trap and replaced the oil trap with a new one from dealer. Not even a drop of oil blowing out after that.

BUT NOW! Oil blowing out again. I removed the flame trap, but no change. I don't think the brand new oil trap is clogged after 8 months, so what could it be?

Let's assume that the PVC system is clog free, what else could cause this? Too much crankcase pressure? How can that be fixed?

Thanks,

Wes

Change your oil cap or even your rubber 0-ring seal on it.

Cool! Yeah, it could be that simple....these go bad about every year for me (20K miles a year).

Huh. Interesting. I've noticed mine leaking ever-so-slightly since doign the oil trap overhaul. I'll replace the seal.

I ordered a new cap with seal from http://www.fcpgroton.com/. I will update when I find out if this fix's the problem.

I also bought a fuel filter too. My maintenence book from Volvo recommends changing it at 100K and I'm at 143K.

I recently have noticed that some oil has been leaking around the oil filler cap and I went ahead and bought a seal from FCP as well. Good to know that others are encountering the same problem. I recently replaced the fuel filter and it was really hard to get off and put back on. The clamp that holds it on is a bear to work with! Good luck!

Volvrow, I'm getting ready to change my fuel filter, anything I can do to make the job easier?

Installed the new oil cap and seal today. I will monitor it and hope that fixes it.
