87 240 OEM radio (cl-712?)----minor problem

Post by Harry von Zell »

Left speaker keeps shutting off, then comes back on usually when I hit the right kind of road bump LOL!. Even an occasional dashboard whack will kick it back on.

Seems like a contact problem, anyone have a fix?

Thx,

The only fix I know is to pull the radio and check the speaker connections on the back. If they are OK check the connections on the speaker. Also check for continuity of the cables in case of breakage (highly unlikely).

If you mean the left speaker in the door, I would definitely check where the wire passes from the body into the door. But, if you can make it work by hitting the dash, it sounds like a connection closer to the radio.

Another "CLUE" I should have mentioned......

When the left speaker "pops-off" I turn the radio off and then on again. Both speakers usually work until the left drops off again (then I do the off/on thing again...)

My guess it's a radio thing rather than a loose speaker wire....If I remember I had an 83 240, years ago, (same radio) that did this too....

My 240 would do that exact thing, it turned out that someone had put the door speaker in improperly and because of this the speaker would sometimes short out on the metal of the door. Removing the speaker turning it and attaching it properly solved the problem.
