1998 xc-70 radio trim - double to single din

Post by Clockboy »

Trying to find a trim piece that will allow me to install a single din radio in the double din spot. Have not been able to find it for the 98. Is there one out there and if not what have other people done?

Greetings. From online pics of your radio model , it looks similar to the radio in my 2000 s70. Check for a Metra brand kit online. I think I bought my kit from Cartoys. I know I bought the wiring harness from them. If you disconnect radio unit be sure you have code. If not you will have to contact dealer with vin number to reset. Good luck.

If you're looking for the box, go to your local volvo dealer and buy one.

This is for a 850, but you can get one for a x70 as well. It'll be better fit and bigger.

Thanks. So there is no box that converts the single space into a storage shelf and place for the radio and I'll have to buy 2 parts - one for the radio and one for the storage shelf. It seems if they are not perfect the fit will not be great.

If you buy a new radio, it'll come with everything you need to mount the radio. It will take the entire single din space. Then, you'll just go to the volvo dealer and get the din box to cover the second single din space

There is no other things you need to buy.

I convert my din box to be a pod holder, but same idea.

There are two trim kits that are available through most internet and brick and mortar stores. One is made by Metra and the other is made by Scosche. Both have a pocket insert.

They both fit but I have found the quality of the Scosche product to be vastly superior. With the Metra kit the pocket and the trim bezel tend to just fall apart after a month or so. The Metra is the Scan Tech of Volvo radio kits.
