I actually watched alot of robertdiy vids :) i will be checking the heater core then too haha.
as I said the car will be getting a major service as soon as i get the money to do it. I am still in high school and drive my car only over the weekend .

I have read that if the car has a T in the vin where age is aka it being a 1996 that it should be obd2 compatible. so can i go to 4.4 but have it remaped by a tuner on the dyno, would that resolve the timing and fuel issues? i just want obd2 :'(

If you know how to adjust the tune, then swapping the ECU and running 4.4 should be fine. Ask the board at Volvospeed to be sure, post in the Performance Modifications section (volvospeed.com/vs_forum/forum/4-performance-modifications/), there are several tuners from Europe who would probably interested to help you figure it out. I would get another ECU and start flashing. Keep the original ECU, do not change it, that way you can always go back to it.

Any 4.4 ECU will work, all 4.4 ECUs are the same hardware. You can not use a 4.3 ECU.
