In 1999, the cover was split into two pieces - probably to make room for the first CVVT solenoid?
Of course, the two piece cover makes the car faster...

Hey everyone,
Finally had some time to get the cover off. Please see the following pictures:

I think it might just be leaky oil cap seal, which was replaced about a year ago when I came to own the car. It looks like it's seeping down the rail the cover rides on. Also the top PCV hose is exceptionally hard, when I assume it should have a little give.

The link to your photo is not live on my OS.
Try to get a Volvo OE filler cap gasket. A number of people have reported that the aftermarket ones don't last.
You are correct that the top PCV hose should flex. It's rigidness is a likely indicator of the overall state of the system.
A 10mm x 1/4" socket with a long 1/4" wobble extension will make the going much easier for R&R of the manifold bolts.

Sorry about that, I fixed the link to the latest pictures, they should be live now, my last post was done via mobile. I went ahead and ordered a replacement Volvo branded oil seal and cap, just to be completely sure that everything regarding the oil filler cap is tip top. I'll update this thread with my findings once my replacement parts arrive. I really appreciate all the sound advice everyone.
Dosbricks, thanks for the advice for useful tools for replacing the PCV system, I will definitely source out those parts to make that job easier

Thank you for the help everyone, I replaced the oil cap and seal and so far no more leaks. The plastic cover is off, and it'll likely stay that way for now. Now, onto the PCV repair, I think I'm going to follow this guide: http://www.lakesidedp.com/uploadpics/pcv/ Unless there's a more through one available.
Edit: Successfully did the PCV service tonight, with no major issues. Feeling really good right now. Was actually left the fuel rail attached to the manifold, and found that to be much easier. I may still go through and replace the injector o-rings eventually, but I saw no need to at this time. Thanks again everyone for your assistance.
