Upper torque engine mount replacement with press. Volvo 850, S70, V70 with Video

Post by rspi »

Never had much success replacing the upper torque engine mount (OEM style) on the Volvo 850, S70, V70, 1993 - 1998 without a press. So I had a machine shop make a press for me. If you'd like to have one let me know.

Nice video!

I did mine recently and used electrical coupler, a few bucks at hardware store. See link below.

The bore size is 60mm, so as long as you have the correct coupler and bolt and washer, you will be fine.
Next time I do this job, I will use sand paper to smooth out the interior of the bore to allow the bushing to go in easier.

I guess I have been lucky that all mine have had the IPD mount when I got them- now I have an RN mount so will have to figure out how to replace it soon

Looks like a pretty useful tool.

Why do you guys spend effort to press out the old bushing? Maybe I am missing something. I just breach the old one with a sawzall or hacksaw then pull it out with pliers, rarely takes more than 5 minutes to get it out.

If you don't have the old bushing to deal with, then whatever press setup you use for the install can be a lot smaller in the left-to-right dimension.

+1
I have a little plastic handle that clamps onto a hacksaw blade making it look more like a hole saw. Quick and easy.

Cool press device anyway, Robert.

In the past I have sawed out the old one, doesn't take long but I usually did scar the bracket or turbo tube. Was also more effort than driving a ratchet. The tough part has always been the install. All kinds of freezer time, etc. Real pain compared to a press.
