By the way, the VW coolant is also carboxylate based, same as the Dexcool. Carboxylates do not deplete so you should be fin even after all these years

I just had my leaking coolant reservoir replaced at a Volvo dealer ... $100 ... they warned me that a new problem had occurred - namely, the previously reliable Low Coolant Warning Light comes on and stays on - but it's full of brand new fluid in a brand new tank. I'll check the connectors and hopefully that's it. Else it's another $100 - grrrrr.

I bought a new (used) tank for $16.00 on eBay for the '94 and it came with a new sensor. Even if you need to buy it new check www.fcpgroton.com or www.eEuroparts.com for a replacement sender - they will be way under $100.00 and it is very easy to change. As I recall all that holds it in is a hose clamp.

You can do it without loosing a drop of coolant if you just turn the tank upside down while you replace it (cap on of course).

Other than that just give the tank a good hard smack and see if the light goes out. The float switch can get stuck.

My sensor issue ... the idiots didn't out it back in ... the sensor is lying under the tank. Anyone know if I can simply push it back in or do I need to drive the 40 miles to Volvo on Monday to get this inserted? What a bunch of idiots. And when I called they said that if it wasn't attached then it would be leaking coolant everywhere and basically called me a liar. Last $100 they get off me.

Maybe it's the old sensor from the old tank, therefore no leak (if there's a new sensor in the tank), and you would have to remove the plug from the old and transfer it to the new.

Yeah it's the old sensor but they didn't put ANY sensor in - old or new. I asked them to put the old one in, which they neglected to do. Booked in to get it inserted tomorrow, no cash shall exchange hands I assure you.

the coolant level sender is about $25 from the dealership and takes no more than two minutes to change(don't even need tools). depress the tab on the sender's connector plug to remove the plug from the rest of the wiring harness and that's pretty much it.

why don't you insert the old one yourself and see if the light goes out? sure beats driving 40 miles both ways.

Just screw it back in, it is the ECT, goes next to the Thermostat. Also, look for the red bled valve on the right side of the motor on a hose that goes to the bottom of the radiator hose. This is for bleding the air out oif the system and can cause a continued PO128 error.
