Need Flat Rate time to Diag & replace coil pack.

Post by DanZ51 »

Long story short, my wife's 2005 XC70 developed a sudden engine miss. She was several hours away, so she ended up taking it to a Volvo Dealer. As I suspected, a coil pack had failed. No big deal, right? The dealer then sticks her with a bill for TWO HOURS OF LABOR (at $140. an hour) after telling her the minimum diagnostic time of one hour would be applied to the repair!

I would like to have "book" times to diagnose and repair (1) ignition coil. and (preferably) the source: ALDATA, Mitchell, Volvo.

This burns me so much. I was a VW/Audi tech a few years back and we changed coil packs like most change there socks. Even the most inept mechanic could accomplish this feat in less than hour (including diagnosis and verifying fault by moving the suspect coil). The Service Manager is an absolute idiot, so I'm sending a registered letter to the General Manager before I file for Small Claims action.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Years out of date now, but here this is either way: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=30215

Public shaming is where I'd put my money (time).

You can name the dealer if you want to. Legally, you're well covered by the First Amendment (as long as it's true).

2 hours is ridiculous given that the diagnostic scanner would isolate the coilpack and/or a test drive at full throttle would bring up the cylinder number on the diagnostic device.

If the service tech doesn't know the quickest way to bring up a misfire he shouldn't be working there.

Thanks Again

O.5 hours per Alldata.

0.2 hours for each additional

2 hours is worthy of shaming, indeed
