Here is a strange problem. I've been driving my 93 850 for about 4 months with no real problem. Mileage is 103,000. I went out to start it one day and the battery was dead. I put the jumper pack on it and went to start the car. It started but the vibration knocked the jumper pack off pulling the positive jumper pack cable off. It died and would not restart. I tested the fuel relay and fuse -both were good. There is a new cap, rotor,wires and plugs. There was spark and there was fuel. No apparent reason it wouldn't start. I suspected the timimg belt had jumped. I do not know if it was changed at the 70,00 mile mark. Took the cover off and everything looked good. Timing marks were aligned as far as I can see.
Took a compression test after shooting the cylinders up with oil and they were all about 100 lbs. My book says they should be up around 180- 230 lbs. If the compression rings are bad why did it run so well before.
I am stumped????

For starters, on your 1993 and some early 1994 models the timing belt must be changed every 50,000 miles or less, don't even go to 50,001 miles between changes.

That said;

1) Is the battery fully charged? If not, fully charge it and don't rely on the jump pack.

2) Have you pulled any codes? If not, pull the codes from A-2 and A-6 and post the results.

3) The low compression is somewhat perplexing but not unheard of. Usually the "Lawn Mower Syndrome" results in much lower compression on all cylinders than 100 lbs. It makes me think that you may have been on the right track in the first place with the timing belt jumping a tooth. Even if the cam marks line up together you need to make real sure that the "microscopic" crankshaft timing mark is lined up on the crankshaft as well.

Sound familiar huh Lee. I will await his results before I speak up.

in the meantime check and see if there is a crankshaft nut on the pulley (30 mm) while you are doing your checks and see if there is any misfire codes, I will explain later.
