Hey all, I was wondering what would be a good choice to go with for a clutch. From shopping around the prices range drastically, as do the country of origin.
I was thinking of going with one of these two options, since it says they are made in Germany. I am open to other options though if anyone knows of a solid, robust clutch.
I guess my question is, what is the difference between http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-1993-Volvo ... r#shpCntId and
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Clutch-Kit-Prem ... hR&vxp=mtr besides being more expensive?
Thanks, Andy
Suggestions for other clutch components and brands would be greatly appreciated as well!

Abstract words, and driver's clutch-throttle inputs determines clutch's fitness. One could spend lots of time researching this topic, but RockAuto says, "SACHS clutches are manufactured to meet or exceed OEM specifications."durk80 wrote:solid, robust clutch
There are organic lined discs, synthetic lined discs, and button discs.
On the other hand,
Is it wise to do an overhaul of a clutch disc?
The quality of new clutch discs that can be bought in stores is far inferior in comparison with overhauled clutch discs.
================
Needless to say, the more aggressive the disc, the more abrasive on pressure plate.
Myself, I'd stick with OEM quality, at the lowest price.

93Regina, Thank you for the wealth of knowledge! It has been so confusing wading through the sea of clutches and manufacturers out there. After looking through all of your links provided, I bought a Sachs OEM clutch based on your recommendation. I can now rest easier and be reassured that the clutch will hold up under normal driving conditions without tearing up the flywheel. Thank you again!

Clutch pressure plates and discs are nothing new under the sun. Normally, OEMs, like Volvo, do not create their own, but buy from existing vendors. And, an engine's horsepower determines what OEMs install.durk80 wrote:so confusing
I'd venture to say the pressure-plate and disc used fits other automotive applications, but the throw-out bearing is different on Volvos, but I know other vendors made this release bearing.
Hence, I'd venture to say buying a kit might be cheaper than buying a pressure-plate and disc, plus a throw-out bearing.
I have enclosed a tech bulletin for vehicles with hydraulic clutch pedal, which yours does not.
