Possible OE Pierburg TCV upgrade from Porsche

Post by LUDErunner11 »

Greetings fellow MVS'ers!

This is my first post, bear with me. (I was very heavy on preludepower.com, hence I continue to use the handle/name to keep consistency on auto forums.)

Coming across several posts on turbo upgrades, I happened to come across the following link for an HD Turbo Control Valve/BCS (TCV) for the Volvo S60R.
https://www.pdvmotorsports.com/products ... -tcv-valve
After cross-referencing the part number on the sticker, eeuroparts.com lists it as a Porsche 911 control valve. My question for those who can chime in...will S60R TCVs work on turbo X70 (and most likely 850s since the electrical plug appears to be the same)??

Beyond the price being reasonable, I'm thinking that in a Porsche application with all that heat that mellows in the engine bay, this TCV valve "should" hold up to high-temperatures rather well.

In summary, if S60R TCVs work flawlessly on the turbo P80 chassis, then this might be an addition to the TCV options out there, including IPD's, ARD's, Phuzzy's, SNAAB's & the OEM Pierburg valve.

Thanks for reading!

Welcome back - it's not your first post, just your first in a long time!

And I will note that your first post was a total bullseye, many here can appreciate this: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=45217

I don't know about the TCV, curious to follow any discussion here.

I just realized I did post something before, my memory is not what it used to be!

Let's hope we get some type of feedback, the price seems great enough that clearing out the vacuum hoses leading to/from the TCV is more work than just buying the S60R TCV & replacing.

Thanks for your reply!

Maybe I am missing the point here, but where are the specs on the part? Upgraded from what to what?

Standard Volvo TCV doesn't apparently cope well with pressures over 12psi for long and tends to bounce at those higher levels. That is why the likes of IPD and probably ARD offer upgraded units for those who want more boost pressure. I am using an IPD unit as my tune from Rica runs up to 18psi, but as many know who read stuff I write here, I am not a big fan of IPD stuff anymore. In fact I had to get a 2nd unit to replace the first one as the poorly designed wires snapped off. The replacement was a different design and due to poor instructions I damaged the valve filter and it caused it to jam preventing boost. In their defence they replaced it FOC. New one is working fine so far. However as this is the same shape/fitment as the original I would be interested to know more about it.

I just came across this post, which in it "George" of ViVA Performance states that there is NO HD Porsche TCV, although Pdv Motorsports does not say the TCV is an HD unit in the first place.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread ... CV-Options

I figured the S60R & 911 see higher boost pressures (and naturally are higher performance vehicles than the X70 cars, maybe switching at more accurate times) so their TCV would be a solid replacement for the OEM one.

Let's see what others have to say. Thanks for your input!!
