engine not turning p0342

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

engine not turning p0342

Post by stephansvolvo »

2000 s80 engine cut out. tried to restart and it clicks like the engine is seized. battery is good. without pulling the timing cover off fully i was able to feel the belts tension which has a lot of play and the rear cam sprocket has play as well. I pulled the codes and it is showing misfire in #3 and the P0342. Any thoughts on where to start? I thought about compression test but the engine isnt turning over.

If you can feel play in the timing belt it has broken and the engine has hit and bent the valves. It's probably stuck on one.

It isn't drive able and probably needs about 2k of head work to fix

That's what I was thinking. I was hoping to deliver better news.
I just didn't understand the clicking and at least not getting the typical turning over.

Thanks for your help.

 I have a 2002 s80 t6 twin turbo.
Timing belt shifted about 2mm.
Engine turns 3/4s the way with cams pulled out.
Indicating it's some thing in the lower end.
It dont think it would pass a fluid test, or a compression test.
Not sure if either were done though.
Could someone give me some insight, mechanic said I am looking at a new motor.
Around $4,600.00...
