hydraulic lifters on a 850

My family and I recently overheated our 850 wagon with a regular 2.4l non-turbo engine. Since we were visiting my parents I decided to try and fix it, my parents are used to oil on their driveway and bathroom faucets.
I took the head off and discovered #3 piston burned due to stuck and dirty rings. I resurfaced the head and put a new piston in it. I pumped the hydraulic lifters in some oil so they wouldn't have air in them. Put it all back together and only got 30 psi in the cylinders. I know timing and valve timing are correct.
Now I'm ready to go back and get it working. I noticed the old lifters had 1/8" spring action in some of them and none in the others. So I concluded the extreme overheating ruined some of the lifters. I received a new set, and noticed none of the new ones have any spring action. I also bought some new valve seals thinking they are probably bad also.
I'm going back next week, does my diagnosis seem accurate? Is there anything else that could have ruined?
The valves checked out O.K. The engine got so hot that some of the spark plug extenders melted.

The curious part is that all cylinders are giving 30 psi. I ,would recheck the timing even though you said it is correct. Were the cam gears removed?

Any chance the block got damaged? Can you put a straight edge on it?

I'm with Tri...check your block. Borrow some type of long precision straight edge from a machinist (or maybe the place you had the head surfaced) and see if you can stick a feeler gauge under it when it's on the block surface. I think the tolerance is supposed to be no more than .002 lengthwise...maybe that info is on the web somewhere.
Why did it over heat...?
