01 XC70/79k: Radio display light not turning on right away

Post by Spoleto »

this started happening last week, initially when i turned the radio on, the light would turn on after 30secs or so, and that turned into several minutes, and today, nearly an hour. Any clues?

Sounds like a short...does the radio work otherwise?

yes, the radio functions fine... still think it could be a short? I actually hope something is functionally wrong with it because i may get a new replacement under warranty.

If it's under warranty, you should anyway.

Well, things (electrical) got worse from date of my last post:

Fog light went out (Volvo installed a new one 5wks ago);
Radio light remained off; and worse yet (in my opinion)
my blinkers went out yesterday, followed by the Error Message display light.

Took car to Volvo and they phoned me this a.m. to say the Radio had to be replaced (under warranty), because it was causing an electrical short to all the other connected systems... once radio installed all the other lights returned to full function.

Whew!

apparently when Volvo removed the radio, they heard clinking noises so they shook it and 5 pennies fell out :oops: I guess my toddler must've slipped them in the few times I allowed him in the car while I was cleaning outside of car, I remember last summer catching him trying to slip a coin into the air vent above the radio console.
