Leaking RPM sensor?

Post by GeekWarrior77 »

I had my air box off today and noticed a sensor on top of the auto transmission that appears to be leaking. Is this the RPM sensor?

From your picture it is difficult to see what part of the transmission that is but to me it looks like the temperature sensor.

Appears to look as if over time when maintenance/fluid top offs/repairs for coolant leaks cause an area for random dirt & debris to accumulate falsifying a transmission leak.

Clean all the muck off and then monitor the area for leaks to see if there is actually one and get a better idea of where from.

I agree, looks like coming from somewhere else and has been there for a pretty long time. Clean it up, see what (if anything) happens.

There really isn't anything behind the RPM sensor to leak. It just plugs into the bell housing and counts teeth on the flywheel and there are no fluids behind it, just ambient pressure air. It normally has an O ring but that is to keep a nice seal from stuff above the bell housing from dripping into a position where it could contaminate the clutch. Most of the cars in the US have an automatic so even that isn't an issue with a slushbox car.
