I have looked at your website (and I do have a Xemodex ETM on my 2000 Volvo V70R) and I'm not sure if you do repairs on the ECU/ECM (not sure on the correct term) for the above car. I had been looking at a car that had been to the dealer and they had identified the ECU/ECM had failed.
There view was the only way to fix it was for a full replacement and software re-load at half the value of the car!
What is it that makes these so hard to repair?
1) If the unit has failed, I'm assuming you have to go the route the dealer says as you can't use a 'used' part I believe due to the immobilizer portion not being re-writable. Is this correct? I can understand that for security purposes not using a re-flashable chip. But presumably if you know what you are doing that chip could be identified and swapped out leaving a useable used unit?
2) If the unit has failed, again I assume if it can't be repaired you are back at the dealer for the software down-load as you cannot clone a failed unit if the issue is hardware failure related?
3) Do you know what causes these to fail? Is it solder damage/failure as in the older Volvo ABS modules?
Thanks,
Neil.

Hello Scot850,
1) Yes, the serial numbers and immobilizer ID are not re-writable. The proper chip can be transferred but a reload would be required after the transfer and VIDA has some safe guards that would prevent the reload.
2) Depending on the type of failure and the cause of the failure would determine if the ECM is repairable.
3)Almost zero solder issues, most of the damage are from external forces (short circuits, voltage spikes).
We are currently developing a proper test bed for this series of ECMs and when completed ( about 6 weeks) we will be offering a full repair and return service.
Thanks,
Tony.

Many thanks for your help Tony. The information is excellent, and I'll keep an eye out for the new test rig coming on line.
