Idle up and Down, also rough

Post by ADriggs26 »

I have a 2001 s60 with 170,000 miles on it. I've had an idle that goes up and down a few hundred RPM when idle. Also when the RPM drops, the idle is rough. Also there sounds like a wobble or loose pulley when the car idles. It drives great and I have no problems other than this. Help please, it's driving me crazy. Timing belt was replaced around 100k.

As a possible guess,
....you may want to investigate cleaning your throttle body. Clean it carefully and gently as the bore is teflon coated and using throttle body cleaner will melt it and a wire brush will create faster carbon buildup in the future. the throttle body clean is a temporary fix, if thats your issue, but it will fail in time and have to be replaced with another faulty unit or an improved contactless throttle body.

Maybe try some Techron Fuel Cleaner if it persists. Pull up to a gas station, empty a bottle in, and fill up your tank. It may run better.

Can you do a live scan, it may be dropping a cyl, intermittent spark etc.
