Hell no. I am not paying out of state rental fees! As for parts, I have slowly been hoarding everything from bulbs to spare batteries, even a radiator and a new starter. I will set of with jugs of water and coolant. (As I ran out when I took my "firey" minivan to Florida last year. As for style, HA my little luxury car looks just fine to me. I have the limit at 80mph on a straight 1-95 because then the car starts to shake, but I am going to diagnose a few minor issues. Since I've had the car the only check engine light I've gotten was loose gas cap and I replaced that. I did have that coolant temp sensor issue a few times, so I used my DOT connections and got 4 for 100 bucks. I'll check in along the way!

I drove to Alaska and back from Arizona (total trip mileage was about 10,000 when all said and done) on my XC. It had 160K at the time. Highway miles are easy for these beasts.

If the engine starts good, the transmission shifts good, and the tires are OK, I would check the fluids and let her roll.
I wouldn't be afraid to drive that car across country......but that's just me.......a 45 year Volvo veteran.

No, that sounds fine - I'm the crazy one - I'm taking my 99 S70 GLT (leaky head gasket, no known maintenance history from 298k miles) on a 350 mile trip to the beach, most of it not on the interstate!
99 S70 GLT current project, hoping to make it new DD
97 Integra GSR (only ~135k mi, but rings are shot in #3 - rebuilding soon)
90 Camry wagon. 299k mi, DD, replacing PS hoses soon

Update - I did a Prestone coolant flush (swapped in about 1.5 gal of fresh 50/50, looks pretty clear/green) and changed the oil/filter prior to trip. Didn't loose a drop of oil or coolant on the ~700mi. trip. Also, though I'd thought the dipstick tube was blowing postitive pressure prior to oil change, I did a glove test, and it's definitley pulling vacuum, which hopefully means the PCV isn't totally plugged. Averaged about 24.5 mpg for the trip. :)

Update: I am borrowing my sister-in-laws 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, because she just got a 2015, plus she was planning on giving her older one to her daughter, who is coming with my family, and hers to Florida. Although, I am still bringing my 960. The odometer just rolled over 158,500 yesterday and I pushed her back and forth to PA during three weekends, and she did good. thats 600 miles, although over 3 weeks, it was amazingly smooth. I am leaving on June 30th, as soon as I make like a tree and get the HELL out of the school. My friend, Patty, just bought a 2004? S80 with 135k miles for 2500 for her 17 y/o daughter. She drives my dream car, a 2012 Volvo XC90 3.2 R-Design in the silver blue color. I would like it in black or red, but I'll wait for the V90. My husband was looking at a new S80 and I said, hell. no. I come first because I make more money :). See you soon, and I'll update on my trip!!
