I have gotten a key from a dealer in Charlotte NC mailed to me for $35 on our '98 S70. All they needed was the VIN, proof of ownership and payment.

I got the part# and key code on Sat. from the shop in Vancouver.
Buy the time I phoned Valentine, they were closed.
I got it ordered today. All will be well when I open the door and start it up

Ken e-mailed me today and said about $85 CDN (about $65 US).

Yep $85. big ones. From what I understand it is gold plated and adds 15 horse power. LOL

Wow, a must have! Count yourself lucky though- later model years take programming, etc. and a price for one key fob can run you as high as $350 or $400.

Hey, think ourselves lucky. We had a Kia Optima that had only 1 key when we bought it (dealer forgot to mention that!). They wanted nearly $600 for a second proximity fob with a cut mechanical emergency key. Bought one from US ( when $1 US = $1 CDN) for $140 + shipping + $35 for key cutting. From Korea a fob/shipping/key cutting was $95!

For P80 cars up to 1998 w/o chips, the keys cost about $6-$7 at dealer.
Don't pay more than that.

For 1999-current: key cost is about $220 or so (out of the door price).

My indie did keys for my 1999 at $45 each - I left my car at his place for a week so he rolled all the VIDA stuff into a couple of days over several customers, so I didn't pay for the registration of the key to CANBUS

Since he dropped me at the airport, I also saved $84 in parking.
