Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2001 Volvo S80 T6-Faulty Seat Warmer

Post by nancie637 »

Hello,
I have a 2001 Volvo S80 T6. My seat warmer burned through the leather seat. I am looking to replace the seat since it has a pretty large burn hole (driver side seat). Does anyone have any idea
if the seats for the S80's are universal? I found a seat at a junk
yard for a 2000 S80, but was hesitant to buy it since I wasn't sure if it
would fit. If anyone could let me I know I would really appreciate it. Thanks!!

VADIS shows same part numbers for seat components up to 2004, so go for it....should work.

I have a 2000 S-80 and replaced the front seats with those from a 2001 model. I believe you will find the stitched panel pattern to be a bit different (no problem if replacing both, but a noticeable mismatch otherwise). My swap worked just fine, but I had to exchange a couple of the wiring connectors (under the seat). The wiring was the same - only the connector styles were different. I just used the ones from the old seats and swapped them (releasing the pins in the old and popping into the new). I also chose to swap out the control module (to avoid the possibility of having to have a software download, which is required when replacing some of the vehicle's control modules).

Repair instructions suggest the need to ground the seat, to avoid static discharge triggering the SIPS bag (very dangerous). You may also need to be careful when disconnecting the SRS connector for another reason. I believe I read somewhere that you can sometimes trigger the dreaded SRS service light (only the dealer can clear). Just to be safe, you may want to wait a few minutes after removing your key before disconnecting it (and perhaps also disconnect the battery).

Best of luck!

I would disconnect the battery and wait 15 mins. before doing anything that has any possible implications to the SRS, just to be on the safe side. Good luck with your swap!
