I bought my nephew a really nice 2005 S60 with 129k miles on it. Drove perfect, no lights in the dash for about 3 weeks. Then, we have had some torrential rains here in Florida for the last week and he told me that all of a sudden when he was driving the abs, check engine, and other warning lights came on in the dash, the temp gauge didn't show anything and the transmission indicator on the dash shows "-" and the transmission seemed to be in "limp mode" I took it to my shop, put a scanner on and a whole bunch of codes came up, mainly communication to TCM and ECM codes as well as some intermittent SRS related codes and some BCM codes..... I have read that the CEM is mounted in a very vulnerable position to water damage (in the wiper/cowl area). What is the most common remedy? Remove the cowl cover, and CEM cover and remove the connectors, dry them with compressed air and check for corrosion?
Any other thoughts?

Sure, inspect the CEM first, the box will show traces of water. Then clean the sunroof drain tube and make sure the tube is not broken. Don't forget always to have the battery disconnected while the CEM is not connected.

Well I found out a used CEM cannot be programmed without some sort of password I replaced trans module with no luck. BUT I spke to Doublebug and he pointed out something. I did not have any connection to the DEM. I went under the car and disconnected the 2 connectors. Car runs fine again For now. It was an immediate fix
Hope it can help someone else. I asked my nephew and he had been driving through some deep flooding streets when it was raining hard the past few days

There is a TSB, and perhaps a Volvo recall, on the pre DeC 2005 manufactured V70s for an upgraded plenum seal to the CEM

Well the seal was completely fine when I opened the cover. The glue was on there pretty tight. I also made sure I put some sealant when I put the cover back on for the last time
It goes to show that sometimes the easy fix is the solution...... I spend a good 4-5 hrs pulling the CEM, TCM and going back and forth to the Junkyard to find out all I had to do was a 10 minute under the car disconnection!
