I have had problems in every single one of my Volvos with the AC, especially ECC solenoid (from my 1989 765t to my 2013 XC60!), and I have even had the compressor clutch fail on a V90, but I have not seen this before and I don't even know where to start...
We originally thought this S90 was low on refrigerant as it wasn't blowing cold. So we recharged it. Then we got the usual faulty ECC symptom of the air only blowing out the defrost vents, but intuition told me this wasn't all that was wrong and I took it to my mech who found and replaced leaking vacuum hoses going through the firewall. It worked fine for a few days after that repair and then did the ECC thing of blowing out the defrost vents again, but now:
The fan will blow even when the control for the blower is set to 0. It shouldn't do that.
The blue light for the compressor will not illuminate -- or at best it flashed on once and then stayed off.
A tiny bit of gray smoke which you could see and smell came out of the center vents.
I can't diagnose the problem with the light flashes with is acting like this.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks,
Laura
