Valvoline maxlife atf is jws3309 and dexIII compatible. According to their website:http://www.valvoline.com/faqs/system-fl ... ion-fluid/

Not a good idea. Dexron III is what is required. It's the proper ATF, and a lot cheaper

I took out the drain plug and then removed the fuel pump/ignition fuse and when the fluid had stopped flowing (or almost) i cranked the engine and then the fluid started running again. I kept doing this until there was almost no fluid coming out anymore. I assume this empties the torque converter and removes the necessity to take off the cooling hoses at the transmission and mess with putting transparent hoses etc............ the method I used was a lot cleaner and simpler.................
good luck

Just completed the transmission flush on 2004 V70 230,000 miles. Everything went just as advertised in the post. I learned a couple of things that might help someone on this project in the future.
* Get green clip (part # 9485149, $13.33 & two O-rings, part # 988840 $9.49 ea.) from dealer before you start. You will ruin the clip that is on there getting it off.
* Get your trans oil, I replace my trans oil with Mobil 3309, I couldn't find it near me, so I ordered it from Amazon 12 qts $72.01 including tax and shipping.
Buy clear 3/4" OD, 5/8" ID tubing I got mine from HomeDepot, but get a lot, I got about six foot. The reason why is to have a more accurate measure.
I drained the Trans oil and got about 3.2 qts. I used an old gallon jug and marked off each quart by filling an old quart oil container and marking the levels. The 3/4" OD hose fit exactly into the radiator, no need for teflon tape. Here is the new trick, when I drained the trans I poured 3 qt. into the milk jug and poured the remainder into the old quart jug. Each time I shut off the car after pulling two more quarts of trans oil I would just put two quarts into the milk jug, the 6' of tubing would allow any extra to stay in the tube. The advantage, I did not have to be very precise with the turning off the car, I just would dump the 2 qts into my recycle container then put the hose back into jug. When I had done this four times (3 qts, for the transmission drain, then four drains of two quarts each, the transmission oil was very clean. At this point, I put the hose into the quart jug (with the remainder of the oil from the trans drain) pulled the hose out of the radiator, then I knew exactly how much more I need to add to get back to where I started.
The whole job took about 40 minutes from start to finish. The car shifts so much nicer now

I am about to do the flush on my 2002 V70. Have a couple of questions. Can I unhook the line at the cooler and start the car to let the tranny pump out all of the oil fluid and then shut it off when it starts to sputter or almost all of the fluid is out? Then simply fill it with new fluid? This way I won't be mixing old fluid with new.
Second question, do these cars have a tranny filter that can be replaced? My front pan is leaking so I would like to pop it off and replace the gasket.
