v70 2.5 year 1997 start problems.

Post by kentn »

Hello, Denmark calling for help. :-)

i have a 1997 v70 2.5 that won't start.
there is no spark on the plugs, and no fuel pressure. if i make a shortcut of the yellow main relay i can make the pump go. but still no spark.

tha car has a alarm installed, but the turning lights are not flash, no horn/siren is making noise and the little lamp on the dash board is not on.

where do the yellow relay gets its signal from? i do think it has something to do wit that, because the relay is not dragging when ignition is on, go when i attempt to start.

any ideas or maybe a circuit ?

regards and sorry for a bit bad english,

kent.

Welcome to MVS. There were no V70's in 1997 in the U.S. I take it, your car is equivalent to our '98 model. Also, no yellow relay- ours are almost always green/red. I did see some earlier ones from the 850 series that were yellow. That said, I'm thinking you have a low battery. It is difficult to understand all you ask.

You are either the same person or have the same problem- I merged the posts...also both from Denmark- maybe you can help each other and we can help both of you at once.

Funny. :-)
Kim is a friend of mine. :-) and the same car we are talking about. But i didn't know he was asking here.
the car is one i plan to buy if we get it started.

the grey relay on the 850´s are replaced with a yellow relay in the triangle fuse box where also the relay for ac is located. but the function seems to be the same.

That is definitely an S/V 70 relay box but in N. America (but before the V70 face-lift in 2001 when the S70 disappeared) we don't have that relay- at least I don't. the 210/211 should be joined together. In your case, the second one to the right of that relay (or next to the J- relay) is missing. All I know is this has something to do with the alarm system "guard alarm relay" comes up when I search for it- maybe that can steer you in the right direction?? https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... hp?t=52804
Here is the search that brought up other links to posts on various sites: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=c ... +210%2F211

The fuel pump relay on our cars is not in that location- it is under the fuse box up near the windshield - under the fuse panel that you remove 4 torx screws- it is labeled as 103.

i did try to replace the main relay, yesterday, and the fuel relay today. no difference.

so you mean that there is missing a relay between "j" and the yellow main relay.
a volvo guard relay maybe?

i did try to replace the main relay, yesterday, and the fuel relay today. no difference.

it makes sense. what is controlling the main relay? as i can tell from a wiring schematic it get 12volt from one of the large fuses, and grind from the ecu. but if the ecu don't get ground on the proper connection, it won't send ground out ?

See the link posted above (link ending with "52252").

The missing yellow relay is for SAS system, which has nothing to do with no start condition that you have at this time.
That link also has detail of circuit diagram for the Fuel Injection system.

See photo taken from that link for detail.
