I removed today the small dc motor that keeps the ECM box cool.

Here's a video I made about this little, yet important motor.

Very good! I didn't realize this about the motor- well worth taking a look on our cars at this point, especially as they approach 10 years!

I also found the intake tube off in our engine compartment.

It just slips on with a foam rubber connector. So that little fan was just sucking in hot engine compartment air, and not conditioned interior air.

Make sure it's plugged onto the intake and secure it with a zip tie.

True, it's not well fixed and the tube gets tossed by the ps and coolant lines. I put two collars on mine near the ECM box while on the firewall end it sits better. I'd replace it with something flexible from a hardware store so as to make it easier to sit in there

Oh, I thought it won't be cheap at the dealer. but haven't imagine this

I'm temped to post an Ebay link with a $5 replacement motor but I don't want to take a chance and hear someone, my ECM is fried what do I do now?

But seriously, $100 when the motor is worth $5 and there are two plastic pieces worth 25 cents each, can someone calculate the marge of profit?

post it.
it's just a 12V can motor with a cap soldered for noise suppression.

it's up to other's to determine if they're capable of doing the replacement.

RS 365 on Ebay, but I don't think these are original Johnson motors, rather chinese knockoffs. Give the poor reputation for chinese bearing bushings, I,d rather try finding an original RS 365 dc motor from a local Johnson distributor.

The original motor is RS 396 while this one is RS 365. Both have the same dimensions as far as I can measure, the difference might be they don't have the same rotating speed or other operating parameters.
