Yes you can use a vacuum on it but don't go nuts! See if it will hold a pressure or leaks down.

Good luck!

Update: I got my PNP switch out and rebuilt it, no more issues from it. I then gave the wastegate a couple cranks, replaced a couple vacuum lines and it runs better. So I felt the need to install a boost gauge to make sure I wasn't over boosting or doing anything dumb. In 3rd gear from a 65mph pull it will flutter between 6-8psi and then peg 10psi solid at 5k rpm up. At idle it pulls 10-12 vac and at part throttle runs around 3-5psi with just tipping in. I would assume I still have a boost leak somewhere. It's still pretty lame down low, I for sure can't get it to break the tires loose.

Side note, the factory rubber connectors on the piping seems really weak and flimsy, nothing like I would have expected like a rad hose or something.

That's either a broken gauge, or a vacuum leak. The only time I've seen a gauge do anything like it, is when the car struggles for purchase in higher gear - and our T5s may be lively, but not THAT lively without extensive modification. Your hunt for a boost leak might not be over - but check with a different gauge first. :)

You will go around in circles until you Stage Zero. Fooling with the wastegate before you get compression and crankcase pressure sorted out will soon get you to the oil leak threads.

It is probably worth replacing all the charge hoses as well - I've had several that blew a hole in em and the car didn't notice with a check engine light or anything like I would have expected (but my butt dyno did).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to build a race car out of this thing. I'm just trying to use the gauge as a tool. I'm going to go back and make sure I have a good, leak free connection on the gauge hose before I do anything. The car only pulls 14in of vacuum with the AC off so from what I'm told it still has a vacuum leak. The brakes at a stop light feel like I really have to stand on them to keep it from pulling through, so there is a reduction in vacuum at the booster I suspect.

I'm working on finishing off the stage 0 that's sort of been done to this car.

What are the sizes of vacuum lines on these? I picked up some 5mm but there is bigger and smaller all over the place.
