rear axle R&R 01V70XC(or wheel bearing)
The existing bad axle did not fit through the hole left after wheel bearing removal, so you have to lift the wheel hub up to get enough room to get the axle out.
First, to replace rear axle you have to remove:
1)brake caliper and disc, abs cable holder and sensor(Hang it up)
2)the shock absorber: torque is 80Nm
3)the bottom sway bar link(torx or 6 mm allen counter hold) and the sway bar attachment on only one side(for the axle R&R)
4)remove and elevate the outer end(by wheel) of the long tie rod bar.
5)the center end of the control arm(long bolt) and bend control arm down
6)the wheel bearing(hub) clean axle splines if reusing
5.)the end of wheel brace attaching to the wheel hub and going forward, the screw goes into the bolt on the inner aspect of this brace
7)the thick plastic support of the rear differential(6 bolts.)
8.)2 exhaust holders and anything else in the way.
Now pry axle out carefully while helper pulls up on the axle. We pounded some on a pry like bar to get axle out: we found the wheel hub had to be elevated to make room for the axle to go down.
The new axle from raxles fit in the wheel bearing hole! Marty made it from specs he had.
we put parts removed last back on first. the torque for wheel hub is 65 Nm plus 60 degrees, but we did these as tight as possible using a cheater on a 3/8 ratchet. Remember to torque (80 Nm)to control arm bolt after car is on the ground.

Can't tell how old is this OP, nonetheless...
I am taking down exhaust and rear suspension components to access Final Drive.
There is an oil leak. First look indicates it is near driver's side rear axle, but can't be sure at this time.
I will know more later today.
Was the axle seal and o-ring replaced with OP R&R?
Is there more on this topic at MVS?
