Glad I found this forum today. Was on other forum but not so many active members.
740 is real bad off the line and worse on hills. I have replaced fuel pressure regulator, plugs, wires and fuel filter. For about 10 miles after fuel filter replacement the car ran fine and then as bad as ever.
If I unhook amm runs worse. and i attached pic of my amm as it seems different that the replacement parts i found online.

Other issues:
-more than 3/4 tank gas=fumes.
-transmission seems to kickdown hard now. checked fluid today and it shows way above 'max' and is very dark.
Waiting for repair manual to show up in the mail. I do not want to get under the tank without some clue as to what is where. I did get into the trunk and all tank connections there seem fine. Isn't there some sort of filter just at the tank? and yes fuel consumption is terrible.
BTW runs fine for hours on end on the highway. cruises at 80 mph fine.
thanks

I must add that when i was attempting to change the fuel filter myself last week I did not see any sign of the main fuel pump which i thought was just next the fuel filter. i don't get it.
i ended up having shop put the filter on as i could not work the old one off. i wouldnt doubt that it was original and 232k on it!

my guess would be that your fuel tank is deteriorating and either rust particles or dirt are getting into your tank.
The fact you said that it worked when you first changed it ..then got worse after 10 minutes might mean that there is enough dirt at the bottom of the tank to clog it up again... or the dirt is in the lines itself.
Why not try a pressure test to see whats up?
As far as the tranny..why not see if you can get a tranny flush and filter done and see if its in the "pink" again?
