Rear parking sensor P2 and others - testing?

I broke my cardinal rule and trusted someone selling what I was led to believe were new rear parking sensors for the rear bumper of our 2006 XC70 (also didn't help I forgot my reading glasses!!). They are in OE blue boxes (that were opened to photograph for the ad).

When I got home and removed them from the boxes it was clear they were not new as both have slight marking on their faces and signs for dirt.

Having been caught out ($30), is there any way to test these other than pulling the rear bumper and connecting them? Can Vida/Dice test these in any way without pulling the rear bumper? I only really need one as it has always bugged me that one of the rear sensors is different to the other 3, and these 'new' units are the same as the originals, but I didn't want to full the money for a new unit.

Also does anyone know what type of system Volvo used for the 2005-7 XC70 and other models? Is it a magnetic system, electric pulse or ????

I wonder how common the rear park sensor are on US models. I remember hearing of issues with them on UK forums http://www.volvoforums.org.uk
